David and I were on a road trip through the Northern Territory and visited Brian and Jo in Kununurra – and we were absolutely blown away by their zebra stone and the incredible works of art they create from it. From small framed sculptures to huge dining tables shipped to Europe – every piece is handmade and unique.
Brian and Jo are not only talented but also incredibly warm and welcoming. Since 2004, they have poured their passion for zebra stone into their own business. Back then, they moved directly onto the zebra rock mine site, lived in a small house, and gradually built the business with their family while raising their three children.
Today, the team includes two Australian stonemasons, Rod and Noral, Cindy – the friendly face in the gallery – and of course Brian and Jo. Local and occasionally international artists contribute their unique styles to the hand-crafted pieces.
The gallery, Kimberley Ornamental Stone Craft, is a place where you can experience the beauty of zebra stone up close. We saw firsthand how small sculptures, tables, and decorative pieces are crafted from the stone, and were amazed by the precision and creativity in every piece.
If you ever visit the Kimberley region, this gallery is a must-see:

For us, this visit was a true highlight: the passion, creativity, and warmth of Brian, Jo, and their team make every moment special. A place to marvel, learn, and be inspired – and, of course, to experience the beauty of zebra stone in all its facets. When are you heading to Kununurra?
Yours,
David & Frances
